About the Item:

The perfect little 1950s suit, with all the beautifully considered details that make vintage tailoring so appealing. This two-piece ensemble, bearing labels from Neiman-Marcus and Jewel of California, is cut from a finely woven, warm taupe fabric. The fitted jacket features a wide, angular collar, three-quarter-length sleeves, matching fabric-covered buttons, and two distinctive rounded tabs at the waist that create a subtle peplum effect. A coordinating pencil skirt completes the look, falling just below the knee for a wonderfully streamlined silhouette. There's something very Hitchcock heroine about the whole ensemble—polished, understated, and exceptionally chic. Wear the pieces together with pointed pumps, or pair the jacket with high-waisted trousers for a more relaxed take on midcentury dressing.

About the Label:

Jewel of California was a midcentury American womenswear label known for its tailored suits, structured dresses, and elegant daywear. Active during the 1950s and 1960s, the label reflected the polished California style of the period, with an emphasis on flattering silhouettes, precise tailoring, and thoughtful decorative details. Its designs included coordinated skirt suits in wool and textured fabrics, often distinguished by sculpted jackets and distinctive buttons. Though relatively little is documented about the company's history, surviving garments offer a lovely example of the sophistication of midcentury American fashion.
