Though produced in the 2010s, this silk chiffon gown is based on one of Zandra Rhodes's iconic 1970s designs. The designer has periodically revisited some of her most beloved archival prints and silhouettes, and this reissue retains the dramatic batwing sleeves, gathered empire waist, and signature hand-drawn botanical motifs and handwritten script in shades of plum, cobalt, turquoise, and blush. Delicate crystal embellishments accent the bodice. Lily found the dress about six years ago and immediately decided it belonged in her own closet. "Everyone needs a Zandra Rhodes in their closet," she says. "If you're a vintage person—or getting into vintage—one of the musts in my book is a good Zandra Rhodes piece."

Founded in London in 1969, the House of Zandra Rhodes is celebrated for its exuberant prints, expressive use of color, and unmistakable textile artistry. Trained at the Royal College of Art, Rhodes approached fashion as both designer and illustrator, transforming hand-drawn motifs into flowing silk garments that blurred the line between clothing and art.
