About the Item:

Joanna bought these raspberry-pink suede Christian Louboutin boots at Barneys more than 20 years ago, during a particularly glamorous chapter of her career. “These belong to my Sex and the City days—I was working with Kim Cattrall on the show and the films, and I think I even wore these boots to one of the premieres.” With their towering cork platforms, slender stiletto heels, and signature red soles, they were surprisingly wearable. “They were extremely comfortable,” Joanna remembers. They were also one of the rare knee-high boots she could easily zip over her calves—a feature she appreciates much more today: “I hated my calves all my life, and now, in my 60s, I love them.”

About the Label:

Christian Louboutin founded his namesake label in Paris in 1991, opening his first boutique that same year. His now-signature red sole came about in 1993, when the designer, dissatisfied with a prototype, painted its black sole using red nail polish. The flash of lacquered red quickly became the house signature—and by the 2000s, Louboutin’s vertiginous stilettos and platforms were practically shorthand for a particular kind of high-octane glamour.
