A pair of Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons jeans in faded blue denim, dramatically slashed and reconstructed with panels of black denim, red tartan, and black sequins peeking through the frayed openings. Cut with a straight leg and cuffed hem, they’re a particularly playful example of Watanabe’s longstanding fascination with taking familiar wardrobe staples apart and putting them back together again. Joanna bought them at Barneys during what she calls a brief moment of sartorial bravery—but the original tag is still attached. “That was my moment of feeling very ‘in’—a little braver because I was living in Dallas,” she says. “But I never wore them.”
