R13’s “Summer Blazer,” cut from 100% cotton in the house’s Poppy Dream print, with cobalt, pale blue, and white florals scattered across a brilliant yellow ground. “I thought it was a phenomenal piece to have,” says Joanna, who imagined wearing it with white pants. R13 has long been a favorite: “I have a lot of R13—I’m quite a collector.” She first discovered the label through V.O.D. Boutique when she opened her Dallas studio in 2015. In a fitting twist, when Joanna later opened her current studio in New York, she landed directly above the R13 store. “They’re on the ground floor and we’re right above them,” she says. “I’m always with R13.”  

R13 was founded in New York in 2009 by designer Chris Leba, who spent more than a decade at Ralph Lauren before quietly launching his own label. Initially keeping his identity behind the brand under wraps, Leba emerged publicly as R13’s designer with its first runway show in 2016. Drawing heavily on American punk and grunge, R13 became known for its distressed denim, oversized proportions, deconstructed wardrobe staples, and irreverent approach to classic American sportswear.
