About the Garment:

“The color combination is so unusual in this sweater,” Dee says. “When I bought it, I thought, wow, I’m going to wear this on my next ski vacation—and I did!” A 1940s Catalina sweater top that captures the brand’s flair for expressive knits. The floral pattern is engineered symmetrically down the front, framed by a slim crew neck and razor-lean sleeves. Long tassel ties at the collar add movement, while the row of buttons brings a touch of craft.

About the Label:

Hollywood-ready sportswear, using its proximity to the studios as part of the allure. The label shaped American style by hiring the designers who defined glamour—Edith Head, Orry-Kelly, Travis Banton. Under longtime head designer Mary Ann DeWeese, Catalina became known for jacquard knits, appliquéd stretch cottons, and the invention of “matching” as lifestyle, from Miss America swimsuits to sweetheart sets for men and women.
