Late-20th-Century Valentino Earrings
Label: Valentino
Era: Late 20th century
About the Item:
A pair of Valentino statement drop earrings built from vertical metal fringe bars arranged in a bold zebra (animalier) pattern. The graphic striping nods to the house’s early embrace of animal motifs—most notably zebra—which Valentino used in his earliest collections; Vogue featured a gorgeous zebra jacket in 1964. Subtle red accents at the hem punctuate the movement of the fringe. Dee found the pair on 1stDibs, drawn to their strong pattern and unmistakable Valentino attitude.
About the Label:
Founded in 1960 in Rome by Valentino, the house of Valentino built its reputation on couture-level craftsmanship and a refined, glamorous vision of Italian elegance. By the mid-1960s, Valentino Garavani had introduced what would become one of fashion’s most recognizable signatures: Valentino red, a vivid scarlet tone that came to symbolize the brand’s confidence and drama.
