This trench coat captures everything André Murasan and Jean-Claude Robin did best in their brief 1974 collaboration: classical tailoring on the outside, painterly surprise within. Cut in a restrained, elegant silhouette, it opens to reveal a hand-painted silk lining—an unmistakable Murasan signature. “I was looking for a coat to wear over a long dress,” Dee recalls. “And then I saw this coat with its beautiful lining that was such a surprise and had to have it. I was so excited because it’s so versatile—given that it’s more of an evening piece.” A rare surviving example from a short-lived label, the coat is both practical and poetic—designed to move effortlessly between day and night, structure and art.

About the Label:

In 1974, André Murasan—whose hand-painted silks were described by the New York Times as “known around town”—joined forces with dress designer Jean-Claude Robin to launch a short-lived New York label Murasan-Robin. Blending Murasan’s painterly textiles with Robin’s classical tailoring, the pair created garments where art lived on the body: refined silhouettes animated by hand-painted motifs, each piece one of a kind. Presented at the St. Regis and sold from their Christopher Street gallery, the collaboration was brief—making surviving pieces rare, collectible, and highly sought after today.
