Straight from Marc Jacobs's Spring 2007 runway, this gold metallic leather cap was designed by legendary British milliner Stephen Jones. With its shallow, close-fitting crown and delicate ties that secure it beneath the chin, the hat is an inventive marriage of playful design and technical craftsmanship. For milliner Gigi Burris, who has long admired Jones's work, the piece was a particularly meaningful purchase. “When it came down the runway, I had to have this,” she recalls. “I admire Stephen Jones so greatly. He's really truly the supreme of our category of millinery. And I saved all my pennies to buy this hat.” Burris also marvels at how beautifully the metallic leather has held up over the years, making the cap a treasured piece of fashion history from her personal collection.

Founded in New York in 1984, Marc Jacobs became one of the defining American fashion labels of the 1990s and 2000s, celebrated for its irreverent approach to luxury and eclectic runway collections. British milliner Stephen Jones, who opened his first London salon in 1980, became a frequent collaborator, bringing his extraordinary imagination and technical expertise to Jacobs's runway shows. A central figure in London's New Romantic scene, Jones has also created hats for Christian Dior, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, and Comme des Garçons. His work has been celebrated in major exhibitions at London's Victoria and Albert Museum and Paris's Palais Galliera.
