Seen on the Fall 2022 runway of Stella McCartney, these sapphire crushed-velvet booties appealed to Ivy Getty for the same reasons they stood out on the catwalk: rich color, eccentric glamour, and unexpected ease. “I wear a lot of jewel tones, and it’s kind of my go-to color—especially for fall and winter,” she says, adding, “I love velvet, but I kind of reserve crushed velvet exclusively for accessories, because I find it can appear costumey in pieces worn on the body, whereas I love it in shoes or handbags.” With their square toe, sculptural wedge heel, and sock-like fit, the boots strike that balance beautifully. Ivy also calls them “super comfortable,” and wore them to one of Stella’s presentations in SoHo—a fitting outing for a pair that feels at once bohemian and futuristic.

Since founding her namesake label in 2001, Stella McCartney has made a signature of combining sharp tailoring, irreverence, and a certain English eccentricity, often with a wink toward glam rock and Savile Row. By Fall 2022, that sensibility extended even to footwear, where sculptural shapes and offbeat materials—like crushed velvet—gave otherwise practical forms a more playful charge. These boots capture that balance well: directional but wearable, theatrical but grounded. They also reflect the house’s longstanding proposition that conscience and fantasy need not be at odds.
