About the Item:

A little disco glamour meets classic American sportswear in this 1970s Geoffrey Beene Boutique shirtdress. Cut from shimmering charcoal-gray metallic fabric, the dress features a pointed collar, button-down front, long sleeves with buttoned cuffs, and a softly flared skirt. A matching sash belt cinches the waist, giving the otherwise relaxed silhouette a flattering shape. The metallic finish makes this an especially fun alternative to a traditional cocktail dress—equally chic with knee-high boots for daytime or heels and statement earrings for an evening out.

About the Label:

Founded in New York in 1963, Geoffrey Beene became one of the most influential American designers of the 20th century, celebrated for his innovative construction, unexpected fabric combinations, and playful approach to traditional tailoring. A graduate of the Traphagen School of Fashion and a former medical student, Beene brought an unusually technical understanding of the body to his designs. He introduced Geoffrey Beene Boutique in the 1970s as a more accessible expression of his signature aesthetic. Over his career, Beene received eight Coty American Fashion Critics' Awards and three CFDA awards, including the organization's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1988. His work is represented in the collections of major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
