Closet Reveal
Actor, Odeon maître d', and lifelong New Yorker Roya Shanks describes her style as "vintage rainbow eclecticism." Her wardrobe—built over decades of collecting—is less about a particular era than a particular feeling. "I'm attracted to silhouettes, sleeves, unexpected shapes, and patterns—and more patterns."
Fashion was not an early obsession. Raised in a household where appearance was "super not emphasized, almost anti-emphasized," Shanks spent her college years in Gap basics before discovering vintage almost by accident. During a visit to her mother in Haifa, Israel, she purchased a green-and-black checked 1960s dress from a tiny shop and immediately felt something shift. "I just felt good in it," she recalls. "A couple people complimented me and I just felt good in it."
Named to both Vogue's and The New York Times' best-dressed lists in 2025, Shanks remains a passionate collector drawn to color, shape, craftsmanship, and clothes with a past. As she puts it: "It's just like color, shape, how it makes me feel."
