Era: 1950s/1960s
About the Item:
“One of the cheapest things you can do is just wear a cute little brooch,” Jenny says of her beloved collection of mid-century floral pins, which she began collecting while still in high school. This cheerful mango-colored flower brooch, with its glossy sculpted petals and textured gold-tone center, perfectly captures the playful optimism of mid-century costume jewelry. “I just love these flower brooches,” she adds, drawn to the way pieces like this can instantly brighten a jacket, cardigan, or lapel. “It almost feels like this eternal version of putting a little carnation or flower in your lapel,” she says. “You can have this and it never fades.” Jenny even used similar vintage brooches as inspiration for a jewelry line she designed while living in New York, creating necklaces composed of removable floral pins. “They’re such a final special touch,” she says of the tiny accessory that somehow manages to transform an entire outfit.
