2000s Fendi Aviator Sunglasses
Label: Fendi
Era: 2000s
About the Item:
“I remember wearing these when my book The God of Driving came out in 2004—it chronicled my adventure learning how to drive, which quickly escalated into race cars, race trucks, even motorcycles. I distinctly remember wearing these at a Mercedes event at a racetrack outside Washington, D.C. What amused me most was that my friends who worked for Mercedes showed up in the exact same pair. They’re flashy, shiny, and fun—and perfectly suited to a flashy, shiny car.” A quintessential early-2000s accessory, these Fendi aviators feature gold-tone metal frames and lightly tinted lenses. The sculptural arm adds a subtle design twist.
About the Label:
Founded in 1925 in Rome by Adele Fendi and Edoardo Fendi, Fendi began as a small leather goods and fur atelier and grew into one of Italy’s most storied maisons. The house’s transformation accelerated in 1965 with the arrival of Karl Lagerfeld, who introduced the now-iconic double-F logo—originally standing for “Fun Furs”—and brought a modern, irreverent energy to the brand. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, when these sunglasses were likely made, Fendi was synonymous with a certain kind of high-gloss glamour: logo-driven, playful, and unabashedly luxe. Accessories in particular—from the Baguette bag to statement eyewear—captured the era’s appetite for pieces that felt both polished and a little bit bold.
