About the Item:

This vintage Lanvin hat caught Gigi Burris's eye for its unusual combination of materials, with ribbon and millinery braid worked together in a striped pattern. “I loved the technique of the ribbon and the Milan braid being striped together,” says Burris, who acquired the piece herself. “It's a very interesting use of materiality that I rarely see.” Burris suspects the hat may date to Alber Elbaz's tenure at Lanvin, given his fondness for inventive ribbon treatments.

About the Label:

Founded in Paris in 1889 by Jeanne Lanvin, the house of Lanvin began as a millinery shop on the Rue Boissy d'Anglas before expanding into children's clothing and eventually haute couture. Lanvin became celebrated for her romantic silhouettes, exquisite embellishments, and inventive use of color, particularly her signature Lanvin blue. The house enjoyed a celebrated revival under Alber Elbaz, who served as artistic director from 2001 to 2015, bringing a playful femininity to its collections through ribbons, bows, pearls, and sumptuous fabrics. Today, Lanvin remains one of France's oldest continuously operating fashion houses.
