Label: Céline

Era: 2010s

Size: Small

About the Item:

A black wool turtleneck dress from Phoebe Philo’s Céline, circa Fall 2017, cut in a long, streamlined silhouette with ribbed trim and a raised center seam. Joanna bought it at the former Céline boutique in Dallas’s Highland Park Village and wore it once or twice, including to The Blue Box Café at Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue flagship in New York. The dress comes from an era of Céline that Joanna collected avidly. “I just loved old Céline,” she says. “Whatever was accessible, whenever it was available, I was buying—even the weirdest things.”

About the Label:

Céline was founded in Paris in 1945 by Céline Vipiana, initially as a made-to-measure children’s shoe business before expanding into women’s ready-to-wear. Phoebe Philo became creative director in 2008, ushering in one of the house’s most influential periods. During her decade-long tenure, Philo became known for intelligent minimalism, precise tailoring, luxurious knitwear, and clothes designed around the realities of women’s lives. Her final collection for the house was Fall 2018, and pieces from her tenure have since become particularly collectible.
