From the Closet of: Joanna Czech

Label: Balenciaga

Era: 2010s

About the Item:

Balenciaga’s BA0027 sunglasses in translucent smoky-gray acetate, with oversized soft cat-eye frames, sculpted temples, and brown gradient lenses. Made in Italy, the inside arm is stamped “BA 27 20K 55□19 140,” identifying the model, colorway, and proportions. Joanna bought the pair herself during one of her Balenciaga shopping trips, though they ultimately spent more time in her collection than on her face. “I love glasses—I’m always buying new ones. Sometimes I buy them and barely wear them, but I still love having them,” she says.

About the Label:

Founded by Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1917, Balenciaga became synonymous with radical experimentation in silhouette and construction, earning its founder a reputation as a designer’s designer. The house was revived as a major fashion force under Nicolas Ghesquière, who served as creative director from 1997 to 2012, followed by Alexander Wang and Demna. In 2025, Pierpaolo Piccioli was appointed creative director, beginning a new chapter for the historic house.
