A deep navy Noir Kei Ninomiya Comme des Garçons shirt dress, combining a crisp cotton button-down with dramatic, feathery textured panels that extend from the waist to the hem. Joanna bought it at Barneys New York and remembers getting plenty of wear out of it, often styling it open rather than as a traditional dress. “I wore it a lot and got a lot of compliments,” she says. “I wore it more as a coat, because it opens all the way down.

About the Label:

Noir Kei Ninomiya was launched in 2012 by Japanese designer Kei Ninomiya under the Comme des Garçons umbrella. Ninomiya had joined Comme des Garçons as a patternmaker in 2008 before Rei Kawakubo encouraged him to establish his own label. Known for working almost exclusively in black and for his highly experimental approach to construction, Ninomiya transforms familiar materials through intricate techniques including weaving, knotting, pleating, laser cutting, and elaborate three-dimensional embellishment.
