About the Item:

Joanna tracked down these Céline trousers in Cannes while there on a business trip for Biologique Recherche. They had already sold out in the U.S., but she managed to find her size at what she now affectionately calls “old Céline.” From Fall 2017, designed under Phoebe Philo, the baggy cropped silhouette features fine black stripes and contrasting cuffs, which Céline styled turned up to reveal the white reverse. Joanna, however, remembers the exaggerated proportions just as well as the details. "My husband always refers to these pants as ‘men repellent’ but I, of course, love them!"

About the Label:

Founded in Paris in 1945 by Céline Vipiana, Céline entered one of its most influential chapters when Phoebe Philo became creative director in 2008. Over the next decade, Philo defined a new kind of modern luxury: cerebral but wearable, minimalist without being austere, and built around clothes designed for women’s actual lives. Her collections developed a devoted following, and pieces from her tenure have become especially collectible since her departure in 2017—so much so that the era is now affectionately known as “Old Céline.”
