Joanna bought this Marni coat at Forty Five Ten in Dallas—a purchase she remembers as “a moment of bravery.” Cut from leather treated to look like brown-and-black snake print, the long-sleeved coat has a concealed front closure and two pockets. Its statement-making quality was precisely the appeal. “It was a brave piece for me—the print, the leather, everything,” she says. “But the colors are still neutrals, so it looks amazing with almost anything.” 

For Joanna, it became particularly suited to Dallas, where getting in and out of a car made a substantial coat easier to wear than it had been in New York. Her favorite way to imagine it now is as an unexpected transitional layer: “For September Fashion Week, I would wear it over a simple tank dress and sandals and just throw the coat on.”
