Label: Maxwell Industries

Era: 1970s

Size: Small

About the Item:

A bold 1970s printed maxi skirt in a saturated orange palette, featuring honeycomb-style geometric patterning and a floral border hem—hallmarks of the decade’s love of graphic, high-impact textiles. The fabric itself comes from Maxwell Industries, an American textile manufacture. The weighty, polyester material gives the skirt structure and swing, making it ideal for statement styling. “I found this groovy skirt at Roundtop in 2021,” Natalie says. “I’m always very overwhelmed by the idea of Roundtop, but when I’m there, I’m always shopping for the vintage fashion!”

About the Label:

Maxwell Industries was a mid-century American textile manufacturer best known for its boldly printed fabrics that appeared widely in garments of the late 1960s and 1970s. The company was closely tied to celebrated textile designer Julian Tomchin, who served as a vice president and helped shape its design direction. Tomchin—the only textile designer ever to win a Coty Award for textile design—pushed American prints toward the graphic, high-impact patterns favored by designers like Geoffrey Beene and Donald Brooks.
