“Joseph and I actually went to the same college—Swarthmore—which is such a nerdy, academic place you’d never expect to produce fashion people,” says Amy. “There were really only three of us: Cindi Leive, Joseph, and myself, all years apart. So we bonded over that."

From Altuzarra’s Resort 2016 collection, this navy pinstripe dress takes a classic, tailored silhouette—double-breasted, sharply cut—and gives it a subtle twist. The braided leather accents at the waist and pockets add texture and a slightly unexpected crafty detail, offsetting the precision of the pinstripe.

“This one I got directly from his showroom in the Woolworth Building,” she adds. “And I remember wearing it to a meeting at the Museum of the City of New York and afterward, my then colleague Aimée Bell and I ran into this man walking his turtles on the street. I’d never seen anything like it. I asked if I could walk them, and he handed me the leashes,” she laughs. “Amy took a picture somewhere, I have no idea where it is!”
