Lily spotted it at one of her favorite vintage stores in Los Angeles because it reminded her of her son. "He was really into dice and necklaces—they were just two of his main interests in a weird moment," she says. "I found this necklace and I thought, 'Maybe I'd wear it, maybe he'd wear it.' It just seemed really special." With oversized gold-tone links and five oxblood-colored resin cabochons dotted with crystal studs, this Kenneth Jay Lane necklace is a playful example of the designer's knack for making costume jewelry feel both glamorous and irreverent.

About the Label:

Few designers did more to elevate costume jewelry than Kenneth Jay Lane. After beginning his career designing shoes for Christian Dior under Roger Vivier, Lane launched his namesake jewelry line in 1963 with the conviction that glamour had nothing to do with precious stones. His bold, historically inspired creations attracted an extraordinary following—including Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Duchess of Windsor, Diana Vreeland, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor. Jackie Kennedy famously commissioned Lane to recreate some of her finest jewels so she could wear the replicas while traveling, cementing his reputation as the undisputed king of costume jewelry.
