Purple isn’t usually part of Sarah’s palette, but this Valentino mini proved an exception. “I don’t wear a lot of purple—I’m not a big fan of purple—but I really loved the pleated, almost tuxedo-like detail at the top,” she says. The vivid fuchsia dress, with its contrasting purple pleated bib, pointed collar, fitted waist, and full skirt, also seems to anticipate the saturated, head-to-toe pink that would become one of Pierpaolo Piccioli’s defining statements at Valentino with his Pink PP collection years later. A pre-Covid favorite, Sarah wore it frequently in Palm Beach and occasionally in New York. “I was able to get over the fact that it was very purple,” she says. “The shape is just perfect.”
